China Develops First Fuel Cell Light Rail... →
The fuel cell light rail locomotive has many benefits — its permanent-magnet synchronous motor can be used to efficiently generate power while reducing vibrations and noise, yielding a remarkable degree of energy efficiency. The magnetic motor is able to achieve higher performance than regular motors, while still cutting energy use by 10-20 percent. Kudos to China.

robosheep: MPR hosts keep saying that rather than opting out of back-scatter scanner (thereby opting-in to sexual assault?) which provides you with an undisclosed amount of radiation you should ‘just go along’ with whatever the TSA asks of you.   This sounds like some of the advice given to women, if you ever find yourself the victim of a rape just go along with whatever he says.  The implied...

peoplesmovement: Do you remember the days when getting elected to Congress or choosing to work for the government was referred to as “public service”?  The idea was that you would be making a sacrifice for the greater good of the country.  Well, those days are long gone.  Today, getting elected to Congress or working for the federal government is a good way to get rich.  Median household income...

Plans for fast passenger rail between the Twin... →
Early this year, the dream of high-speed passenger rail service seemed almost on the brink of becoming a reality. Now, after the midterm elections, plans for the service linking Chicago and the Twin Cities could be sidetracked indefinitely, if not derailed, to the dismay of Minnesota rail boosters. The article only goes downhill from there. It’s really unfortunate that these projects...

headphonesnotrequired: Don’t go through the body imaging scanners, and if then subjected to the “enhanced” pat-down, make it very clear that you consider what the TSA is doing as sexual assault and a violation of your privacy, and that you will report them to the ACLU and EPIC. You should also file a complaint with TSA.

Man jumps to his death while running from police |... →
A man allegedly involved in a nightclub fight died early Saturday when he jumped to his death from a downtown Minneapolis freeway overpass while trying to out run police in a foot chase. Officers were called to the Epic nightclub at 100 block of N. 5th Street after a fight broke out just after 2 a.m. When they arrived, the man took off and ran into a nearby parking ramp. The suspect, who is...

Creo Elements/Pro formerly Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire... →
PTC recently decided to change the name of Pro|ENGINEER to Creo Elements/Pro. What I find most interesting about the name change is the reasoning behind it.  PTC acquired CoCreate in 2007, and now they’re integrating Pro|E, CoCreate and ProductView into one streamlined system. Had they kept their prior naming system, CoCreate would have been named Pro|Create.  It’s too ridiculous not...
